Complete Musicianship 3-Year Course

for children ages 4-8

3rd Year

August 2025 to May 2026

Up to 9 children in each class.

Classes are once per week for a total of 30 classes.

Third Year is such an exciting year for our Let's Play Musicians! We will learn how to play songs in 5 different keys (C, F, G, A minor and C minor), transpose beginning level pieces, sight-read and improvise on a melody, identify all the notes on the grand staff, learn real rhythm names and counting, discover musical form and expression, study chord theory and inversions, AND the most exciting of all -- compose an original piece!! Of course, as always, these concepts will be introduced so incrementally and playfully that the kiddos will simply think that our weekly 55-minutes together is just so much fun!

Let’s Play Music Third Year Overview

Class time choices for 2025-2026:
Tuesdays 6:15-7:10pm Central
Wednesdays 4:40-5:35pm Central

Saturdays 11:00-11:55am Central

General calendar:
Early August – Mandatory Parent Orientation (1 hour)
Mid August through early December – 15 Purple Magic lessons
January through early May – 15 Orange Roots lessons
Let’s Play Music 3rd Year Composition Recital – mid May

Class duration: 55 minutes a week (1st Year was 45 minutes; 2nd Year was 50 minutes)

Parental involvement:

Parents attend class once per month on lesson 1, 5, 9, 13 & 15 of each semester. They also assist with keyboard/piano practice at home.

Just as in 2nd Year, students are expected to practice 5 times per week in 3rd Year. Practices will be around 15-20 minutes long. The hardest part is actually incorporating the daily habit of sitting down to practice. The practices themselves are pretty smooth! It will be the parent's responsibility to ensure practices happen. If you have a "real" piano (aka an acoustic piano), the piano must be professionally tuned once per year.

Tuition:

$640 for the entire 3rd Year

--An $80 non-refundable deposit is required by March 31st to secure your child’s spot. This will be put toward the tuition balance so that $560 will remain when classes start. The remaining balance of $560 *can* be paid in four monthly installments of $140 ( due on Lessons 1, 5, 9 and 13 of the fall semester). If you decide to pull your registration from LPM prior to classes starting, the $80 deposit will be retained.

--Please register for the class time in which you are currently enrolled. If you would like to move to another class time, just let me know. It is possible someone will want to switch. When choosing your class time, please keep in mind that attendance for Let's Play Music is of utmost importance as the program advances in knowledge quickly. Students should strive to attend at least 13 of the 15 classes per semester.

--Let's Play Music is a 3-year program in its entirety. Registration for Let's Play Music is per year. Upon registration, it is anticipated that you plan to the best of your ability for your child to complete all 3 years of the Let's Play Music program.

--Graduates of the Let's Play Music program travel a variety of musical roads upon graduation! Many students choose to continue on to Bridge, which is an optional 4th Year of Let's Play Music that Mrs. Katie offers (she now has optional 5th, 6th and 7th years also!). Others choose to continue lessons with another private teacher, try a different instrument, or take a break from music for the time being. Students who are able to keep up with the work of 3rd Year will also do well in Bridge and beyond. Katie sends invitations to the Bridge program in February, so there will be plenty of time to discuss options before graduation in May!

Registration for 3rd Year opens on Saturday, March 1st!

Registration is a 2-step process:

1) Register your child with corporate LPM by going online to reserve their spot and pay for your child’s materials ($79/full set or $50.50/sibling set). Note: Purchase of materials is required to reserve your child’s place.

2) Pay $80 non-refundable deposit by March 31st. Payable to Katie Shannon via cash, check, PayPal or Venmo. Can be slipped into Katie's studio tuition dropbox or mailed to P.O. Box 796, La Porte, IN 43652.

Enrollment Instructions

To register for LPM 3rd Year, go here.
On your preferred class time, click "Enroll" and log in with the username and password you have used in previous years. It is important to use the same email address, as the digital download music albums on the app are all tied to that account.
My enrollment ID is 38729.
You'll then go through the steps to register and purchase materials for 3rd Year.
